Area guide - Edgeley
Tucked against the south west edge of Stockport, Edgeley is the closest residential area to the town centre and therefore the best placed to make the most of everything it has to offer. It’s also a top place to get on the property ladder, with a wide choice of high-ceilinged terraces that were originally built to house the workers that kept Stockport’s Victorian factories going.

And if you need a more family-sized property, there are larger houses and new builds to choose from too, with Alexandra Park handily located just along Edgeley Road.
Getting around
Train stations don’t get more convenient than Stockport is for Edgeley. Commuters can walk there in three minutes and be in Manchester Piccadilly in 11 minutes, or London Euston in just over 2 hours. Edgeley is also handy for bus routes, and with M60 just the other side of the Mersey, it couldn’t be easier getting onto the motorways you need for all the big cities near and far.
Food and drink
The borough of Stockport is rapidly establishing itself as a good and drink destination, and local transport networks mean that Edgeley is well connected to pretty much all of it. A stone’s throw away in the town centre itself, you’ll find everything from boutique eateries and much-loved chains, to fabulous cafes, bakeries and pubs galore. There’s even a three-day food and drink festival in Stockport, treating visitors to delights from over 70 traders. Head a bit further out, and you’ll find everything from local taprooms to Sicilian Street Food in the wider surrounding suburbs.
If schools are a priority, Edgeley has a good selection on the doorstep and further afield. Alexandra Park Primary school, Stockport Academy, Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School and a host of nursery’s and pre-schools are all within a fifteen minute walk, while the excellent Parrs Wood High School and Stockport Grammar can both be reached in 12 minutes by car.
Local amenities
The main local hub is Castle Street, where you’ll find all the daily amenities that keep life flowing, from the supermarket and shopping precinct, to cafes, charity shops, high street banks and the post office. Of course, Stockport town centre itself is just a stroll away, and you can be sampling the culinary and cinematic delights of the Redrock Complex in less than twenty minutes.
Green spaces
Edgeley’s closest green space is the well-known and well-loved Alexandra Park. Located next door to Alexandra primary school, it’s the former home of Edgeley House and provides a lovely escape for biking and dog walking, along with tennis courts, a skate park, basketball court, playground and a reservoir popular with local anglers.

Nearby there’s also Edgeley Park, home to Stockport County FC, and if you don’t mind hopping in the car for ten minutes, Woodbank Park provides even more wild open and woody spaces to explore.
