Area guide - Ladybarn
Ladybarn has its own park, its own civic centre and its own train station, just three of the features that are attracting more and more first-time buyers to the area. Its compact geography spans Ladybarn Lane and Mauldeth Road, but with a western edge nestling against Fallowfield and Withington it’s popular with students and provides easy access to the bars, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets they offer – with a far calmer atmosphere.

Ladybarn is also highly multicultural, giving it a diverse offering of places to worship and eat, and a community spirit that’s very much its own.
Getting around
It’s not hard to get around from Ladybarn, whatever your preferred mode of transport. A few minutes from the the Oxford Road corridor its ideally positioned for busing or biking straight into the city, or you can hop onto the 22, 178 and 179 for cross-town routes. It takes just under twenty minutes to get into Manchester City Centre by car, but Mauldeth Road railway station slashes that to just 8 minutes, and if you go the other way you can be in enjoying the restaurants and shops of Wilmslow in about thirty.
Food and drink
Ladybarn is famous for Sanskruti, an Indian restaurant specialising in vegetarian and vegan food, and if vegan is what you want the pleasures continue in nearby Withington at Boho Utopia. Alternatively, you can grab Japanese dining at Kyotoya, Middle Eastern flavours at Pasha or blast into Fallowfield for a cheeky Nandos and a pint at the family-friendly Friendship Inn.

It only takes fifteen minutes to walk to Fallowfield, but if you don’t mind hopping in an Uber West Didsbury’s legendary bars and cafes are in very easy reach.
There are a host of primary and secondary schools within a walk or short drive or Ladybarn, the closes being its two main primary schools – Ladybarn Primary School and Mauldeth Road Primary School. When they get older there are plenty more to choose from, including some of the best in the area. Manchester Grammar School is 6 minutes in the car, while Withington Girls’ School is just 15 mins walk.
Local amenities
The main hub of amenities for Ladybarn is situated along Mauldeth Road, where you’ll find much of what you need, from a Co-op Food supermarket to the local laundrette. There are a host of handy outlets along Kingsway too, including garden centres and pet shops, but the slightly bigger Fallowfield and Withington mean that post offices, banks and bigger supermarket options are never far away.
Green spaces
Ladybarn Park is right on the doorstep with lots of activity options and wide-open space. As well as a children's play area, multi-use sports area, skateboard park, bowling green and free to use tennis courts, the community group – Friends of Ladybarn Park – help to share news and support family events there. If you fancy a change, the even more spacious Fog Lane Park is within walking distance down Parrs Wood Road.
